Hi guys,

Just wondering if I were to purchase an economy ticket from sydney to hkg (lets say on red deals or whichever the cheapest deal that allows me to do upgrade). Then in 6mths time, I decide to upgrade to PE, does anyone here knows if this going to be a cheaper way to get an PE seat or just get the Premium Economy Saver itself?

Last time I got a very cheap deal with VS like AUD 899 return on economy but after 7-8mths I called up and asked if I was able to upgrade to the PE class, then was offered AUD $150 for upgrade to PE (one way as it was my return flight), which it was a lot cheaper then getting a PE ticket itself.

I prefer not to use points upgrade as I prefer to leave it and redeem tickets for my family.

Won't happen unfortunately (I saw you post this elsewhere, i'm assuming it was over at flyertalk ;)).

Short of using points, the only way to upgrade is to pay any applicable change fee, and fare differences.

Unlike other airlines, Qantas is quite happy to do this as it knows from past experience, people will generally pay for them rather than have to hand them out at a discounted rate.

There is no way known that QF will offer upgrades from discount economy to premium economy for ~$150.

If you want to upgrade from WHY to Y+ and don't want to use QFF points then your only hope is an op-up or pay the difference from the discount economy airfare you paid and premium economy airfare at the time of change + change fee.
