Upgrade VA Flights with points booked using Amex credit

I have been trying to upgrade my VA ticket ( booked via Amex Travel ) but somehow unable to proceed. I am unsure if the restriction is with VA as Qantas seems to be allowing the same.

Can someone please comment if they were able to upgrage using points on non-Qantas flights.

If it’s a recent booking (within 24 hours or so), make sure Amex Travel has actually ticketed it. You can check this on the VA website under MMB - status should state Confirmed, not Pending or any other status.

Otherwise, I assume you’ve check for underlying Business rewards availability on VA for the same flight(s) and you’re using the MMB points upgrade feature? Any particular error messages?

By credit - I assume you mean travel credit from AMEX not a free return fllight?

It's not uncommon for such issues to occur with tickets issued by agents other than VA, if you call and explain the team should be able to process it (assuming availability exists).

If you can't upgrade online, contact the call centre and explain the error and they'll do it for you which will avoid paying the fee. No need to mention AMEX.
