Hi All,

First of all a Happy New Year to Everyone.

Now to the serious question, I have enough points to upgrade from Discount Economy (S) to Business on a QF domestic sector coming up next week, It keeps saying that an upgrade seat is not available online:(, my question is am i able to attempt an upgrade with points at the regular check in counter on the day of departure, i'm not a QC member so any info I find on the QF website is useless...

FYI. I'm also only QFF Bronze (down form gold but I had a phase with Tiger & Virgin for a few years)

Any suggestions from you guys

Upgrades using points on departure is a benefit offered to those with Qantas Club access and not available at the check in desks in the terminal

Damm, so I'm out of luck, The reason I ask is that I am 6ft 4" and want the extra leg room so I can stretch out a bit, Guess I will have to go for a bulkhead or Exit row seat

Not that I use it, but doesn;t the electronic checkin at the airport offer you a points upgrade at the time of checkin if there is plenty of Business (U) and qantas are trying to bump up domestic passengers due to overfilled aircraft?

Don't have check in booths in HBA, we are about 20 years behind the rest of Australia with all that stuff

Are you sure that this is offered to non QC members; I thought that this option was only offered to those who are entited to request ODUs

Just ask for an exit row at the airport and hopefully be able to get it

Also, do keep checking the QF site for business award availability for the flight you are taking; if award availability comes up at least 24 hours prior to departure, you can upgrade that way

Dave

What time is your flight?

I have had luck the morning before (so as not to fall foul of the 24 hour Rule) in upgrading Economy (S) to Business (U).

Best to try in the morning first thing and then sometime after 10am.

This morning I have just upgraded a relative travelling on 3 January when all previous attempts had failed and the ever present:

"No upgrade seat is available at this time. Please try again later."

kept appearing!

Good question: - I don't know of anyone who is not a Q Club member (or Gold or Plat frequent flyer) that travels enough to come across this.

You could of course try and find a QP guest pass and enter with that. Once in the club you can ask the service desk for an ODU. I'd offer one but alas I'm all out of them (only used to get one a year on re-qualifying for PS and was already a QP member).

Ahhh.... You should never have left the fold!!

Best chance for more comfortable journey I would say would be get there early and ask for an exit row.

I am pretty sure that you can use the Qantas Club ( or business lounge if available ) if booked in business class on an upgrade

Dave

Indeed should be able to get to the QP (or J lounge), as it is based on class you are travelling regardless of being a upgrade or full fare J ticket.

Flight up was great, love it how the FA's address you as Mr. xx_xx_X. Problem is that I don't like economy anymore.

anyone have 5000 QF points so I can get an upgrade on the way back???
