Hi all,

Just wondering peoples experience with points + sc after doing an upgrademe premium bid? I did one late last year on VA1 from Y to Y+ and sure enough got credited both SC and points for Y+ but I am not sure if this was just a random occurrence as the T&Cs seem to clearly state you only get points for the original base fare.

I have a SYD-BNE-SYD trip coming up and am very tempted to put a bid in for one of the legs as I have run out of free lounge entry passes and am just shy of gold and 40 SC vs 10 would tip me over.

Being a touch larger than a standard Y chair I've used it a few times on domestic sectors. In my experience you'll only get the points & SCs for the class originally paid for regardless of how much you pay for the upgrade. You will have no problems with lounge access as a ticketed J pax.

Annoying, but sadly it is what it says on the tin...

Interesting, maybe it was just luck that I scored the extra SC and points on my syd-lax flight. Thanks for the input.

I got a successful VA whY to premium/J seat, PER - SYD a few years back, after premium bid came in, think I paid $199 for the whY seat, and $350 on top to get up to premium/J.
The VA FF points and VA SC that I got was for the one I paid for, ie, at the whY rate, disc Y.
Think that when you got Y+ VA FF points and VA SC, it was a fluke.

I'd probably bid to upgrade on most of my flights, if it resulted in receiving the higher level of SCs.

At the very least I would like to see points earned on successful bids... for domestic flights at least where you earn based on how much you spend.
