UpgradeMe pricing and success

Booked SYD-OOL a few weeks ago for $99 per person (2 people on itinerary) one way.

Received the upgrade bid via email tonight for a flight well over a week in advance.

l'd bid "maybe" $80 - $90, but the flight is just over an hour, l don't see the value in this one at all.

Minimum bid is $150 per person.

$99 x 2
$150 x 2

= too much for a 1 hr 20min flight.

You do have to protect revenue in the J cabin otherwise everyone would buy the cheapest Y ticket and upgrade.

Keep in mind you get lounge access, priority check in etc too, but as a Platinum I already get most of the perks so the upgrade is only the on-board experience.

Yup it's much better value for someone with no status. As a platinum you already have economy X and all other benefits. Basically paying $150 for a chicken sandwich and a comfier seat for a 1hr flight.

Even the latter is arguable, especially if you get row 3. But it's not aimed at WP's so I don't care!

What are your thoughts about minimum bid amount $150 for an upgrade to Biz on MEL-CNS flight.

I'd definitely go for it. 3hr flight and a proper meal is worth it to me for $150, although I never have seen an offer that good :(

Apologies , it is 240 now. I was messing up with all my upcoming books so it could have been for a different flight.

This thread has been rather quiet lately.

Interesting to note that Economy Lite fares (formerly Getaway) are no longer eligible to upgrade using an upgrade bid (or Velocity points).

I think with J fares so cheap on VA at the moment …. anyone mildly interested would be better off just buying a J saver fare up front.
I booked BNE-CNS in J this week for less than $300 each way. Y was much cheaper (obviously) and I could have used points but had Travel Bank credit to use.

Unsuccessful bid from Gold member + 1. Sat 20/11 BNK-MEL. Bid +$10 above minimum ($105 each). J class went out 1 empty after having 4 seats avail 5 days prior. Bit thankful in end as there was a upset toddler for most of the flight in Row 1.
