I think I may have made a mistake.

I booked a SYD-CDG return flight including 1 code share with AF for SIN-CDG and 1 AF flight for CDG-HKG.

I wanted to upgrade those flights to Business using point, however it seems that Im only able to upgrade my SYD-SIN and HKG-SYD leg.

Is there anyway I can upgrade the flights operated by AF?

What about if I change to BA operated flights?

Watch out you don't get the extra baggage on this flight as well........If you are Gold or Plat that is.

No upgrades available for any flight other than flights operated by Qantas.

What no extra luggage? Now Im starting to get annoyed.

Is it any different with BA since it is part of oneworld?

Not really, it all depends, it's all got to do with Resolution 302 (IATA)

So No upgrades, No extra luggage..... Why am I with QFF for?

I'm French, so obviously going there twice a year, I didnt realise I spent my money on the wrong FF membership...

I should have done my research..... Virgin I'm coming your way!

Sorry, but what has this got to do with Qantas when you are travelling on another airline?

Well, this is a flight booked on Qantas's website with a QF number and for which Qantas takes the money for.... It has got everything to do with Qantas.

But if you find a flight Operated by Qantas aircraft going to CDG please let me know as I would love to hear about it.

More specifically, the segment must be both marketed (Qantas flight number) and operated by Qantas (metal).
And only with QF points

Apart from some exceptions, upgrades with an airline miles/points can only be on a segment that is both marketed (airline flight number) and operated by the airline (metal). QF is far from unique: a common rule of freq flyer program

IIRC Virgin Aust do not have freq flyer point upgrades on any international flight. including there own flights.
Nor do VA/DF fly to France

Thank you for the useful information. I have learnt something new today.

So to resume, if I want to use points to fly business on international, I should do an Award booking instead of upgrade?

Yes, or use the FF program of the operator of the aircraft.

For most airlines that will not work if your flight is booked as the codeshare - (not the operator [metal])

===
Rewards flights are locked in when you book.
Upgrades with miles/points are all a lottery and/or need a higher price base ticket. Some airline upgrade lottery's are better than other airlines. QF is ranked near the bottom. With QF you have low chance of winning.

Should have said use the FF program of the aircraft operator, and book on their own flight number.
Of course, that creates challenges as AF do not fly to Australia..
