Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience in using points upgrading to Business when you use the Virgin High Flyer 2 for 1 offer?

Mark

Yes, as long as you buy the Flexi fares when purchasing the 2 for 1 on the credit card.

I have used Platinum free upgrades as well as points. Very good value when used on coast to coast services.

Yes I have done this as well. Cost me about $300 for two flexis MEL-BNE return on the 2-for-1, and 4 upgrade credits. Not bad seeing as the normal price would be around $2k!

If there are J reward seats available online, that also means upgrades are available, as it is the same inventory.

Honest question from me as I want to know so I can include confirmed info here:

Are you sure that Flexi upgrades to Business, which book into Q class are linked in a 1:1 way with J rewards availability (J rewards being H class)?

There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that Q class availability is more closely linked to J availability rather than H (rewards) availability, but always trying to gain a better understanding.

From what I can tel J > .. > Q > .. H ...

So, In general, if there is H class, there is likely to be Q class. (As per the thread linked to)

Ah yes, as has been discussed over on the other thread.

I guess I focussed too much on the "as it is the same inventory" and implied in my own head that there was a perhaps known Q=H relationship.

I purchased a flex and used an upgrade for a flight tomorrow
look what I just found when reading the t and cs
surely one gets flex fare pts on the purchased ticket
VELOCITY POINTS: Unless otherwise specified, Points and Status Credits are not earned for travel on Velocity Upgrade Fares. This is subject to change at the discretion of Velocity Rewards Pty. Ltd.

Did this last week, used points to upgrade a Flex fare to J on a SYD - PER flight. Got the status and points of the original flex fare, not the J fare if that makes sense?

Can I just say that at 4950 points for the upgrade (using current special offer) on one of their new A330 J seats, this is great value and definitely worth it. Sitting in that chair for 5 hours from SYD to PER you wouldn't even recognise today's DJ compared to a few years ago!

Still get the SCs and Points as a flex.

As a Plat (at 10x $s) and with SYD-MEL, SYD-BNE only 2450pts, I am upgrading most of my fares and still coming out positive (most fares costing $200-$400) on the points ledger.
Much better than QF if you are on flexi or last-minute bookings.

Mmm, yes, I've seen this too. Which version of the T&C are you quoting from? I generally go by the version thats presented in the ticketing window ... and yes, there appears to be variation between that and the ones presented elsewhere on the Velocity web site (argh!).

When I'm in ticketing and the T&C windows appears, which you have to check a tickbox that you've read, I also take a screenshot and a capture of all the text for use later (if required).

To rest your mind at ease, a tiny bit anyway, I've received both FF and SC for upgraded Flexi tickets.

Rang to upgrade Flex to Business when reward flights showed NO availability in J for 738 flight Per-MEL this coming Monday and was given the OK. So pretty happy with the outcome though a bit suprised.

Sort of hate to ask as i'm sure ive seen it here before. But the seat map shows 12 seats in J with B&E marked as n/a. Is this the real business class seating or PE with the movable armrests.
I'm pretty sure last time when i got a BSI, the map showed only 8 larger seats.

Thats really interesting. Another data point to indicate Q class > H class perhaps.

Seat map shows 4 pax in J. I've got 2 of them.

Weirder and weirder. If when you rang with your flex tickets there were only 2 J passengers, I can't imagine why rewards seating wouldn't be showing 2 fares available. 738's these days always seem to have 4 of the 8 J seats allocated to H (rewards).

Perhaps there are actually more than 4 J fares sold but 2 or more haven't chosen seats yet and will end up with seat-of-the-day???

That's not consistent with the flights I regularly take (ie. at peak time M-F 4-7pm)
I often see J7 H0 on EF.

However, many of my flights are to/from CBR - not much H around there at all.

Just upgraded a flexi flight this week using Half Price Points...

Operator noted that this promotion finishes 30 June.
However you can still apply it to bookings after 30 June.
