I am a Qantas Gold FF and am currently on a business trip that involves 12 flights to 4 countries in two weeks. As the route did not always have Qantas or codeshare options I have a couple of flight on airlines such as Emerates which are not partners. I have flown 3 of those flights to date and have been upgraded to business class on two of them one Cathay Pacific (one world) and the other Emerates (not one world) which was very surprising as I very rarely get upgraded on Qantas flights! Has anyone had similar experiences in getting upgraded on other airlines? Also, any ideas on the logic behind who gets upgraded and who doesn't.

Travelling alone? That seems to be a factor in "out of the blue upgrades"... sometimes!

Makes sense really....

High fare classes?

High fare classes?

have done 7 J class trips in last 3 years including 3 RTW so in all over 50 flights, and not one upgrade.

These were all travelling alone.

Mind you 80 % of these were QF so probably explains why!!

People seem to have better luck on CX??

Funny you mention CX... my ONE op-up was with them..

Travelling alone.. NO OW status.

J>F on the 744..
