Folks, greetings hope that you all had an enjoyable Christmas/New Year break.

I've been a Qantas Club member for almost 30 years but not as savvy as many of you here on AFF and have two questions

I bought two return tickets Brisbane- Los Angeles in June 2023 for a trip in late January 2024.

A) Over the break I went to look at upgrading these tickets using my wife's points and my points respectively.
When I step through the process on the Qantas website it stops and tell me that upgrades are not available - fare type not eligible.

Is this definitive or are there any other ways open to us to get an upgrade?

B) As my wife and I are now mid 60's and we're going to the US and Canada, are there any suggestions regarding travel insurance

i.e. any suggestions/recommendations as to who to use?
I note Qantas sell travel insurance, is there any feedback good bad or otherwise from those in the know?

Cheers

For B, suggest you raise that in the appropriate thread (or look at existing ones) here.

For A- the cheapest economy fares are not upgradeable (even if you are Platinum), these are marked Sale. You need a fare in the Saver class or above.

If you really want to upgrade you'd have to call and change your fare to a Saver class, which probably wouldn't be worth it given that the upgrade is far from guaranteed.

At least the A330 is quite comfortable in Y especially as a couple where you could get the window & aisle seats and not have to sit with a stranger.

On Qantas, all domestic flights are eligible for upgrade using points. However, for international itineraries, you need to be booked into something other than a deep discount fare. These are flights which book into the N, E, O or Q fare code (easy way to remember it is, Not Enough On Qantas). If booking direct on Qantas it will show you which options are eligible for the upgrade:Screenshot 2024-01-08 at 22.15.29.png

Folks, heeeeelp! Is anyone awake out there??

Following on from my original post here. I bought two O class tickets BNE to LAX way back in June 2023 when Qantas had that massive ticket sale after news of their plummeting down international ratings list was made public. I bought two tickets at $1100 each - so far so good.

We flew out on 18/1/24 and were booked for our return flight and were allocated window seats in row 29 Seats 29J and 29K on QF16.

Now having finished our holidays, we checked in again last night on QF16 for our flight back to Brisbane and seats were once again confirmed and boarding passes issued - so far still ok - after going to sleep we received a message during the night, saying that our original booking on QF 16 was now cancelled. A following message said that Qantas have rebooked us on QF 12 seats in Row 88 seats 88F and 88G - these appear to be the very last seats. We now leave LAX about the same time but arriving in Sydney at 6.35am Friday 9/2/24 with a 90 minute layover with a connecting domestic flight to BNE arriving at 8.35am.

It's 8am here in LA and 2am in Brisbane - Qantas have said we have two options - to either accept the new legs or we can ask for a refund.

I'm a 30 year Qantas Club member, Gold status has anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do next.

PS - I have searched the internet, Skyscanner is still showing Qantas as advertising seats on our original flight QF16 - one way tickets being sold at $1598 each - I took a screen shot!!

Can anyone help with suggestions

regards

Rono

7 Feb QF15 was cancelled, so there was no aircraft at LAX to operate QF16.
