Hi, my friend is travelling on the same VA flight as me but under a different PNR. Is it possible to use my points to upgrade them?

According to VFF, only family members can do this, by 2 being VFF members, and then family transfer of points.
Edit: can you or him/her afford a bid upgrade, with $?

You can upgrade anyone using your points (as long as they are not on a "lite" fare).

Members may upgrade themselves, their travelling companions or any other traveller.
