In order to process a domestic points upgrade, award availability is required. (U class). There is currently none for this flight. This can be checked via Expertflyer or similar, or simply by attempting a dummy award booking from the Qantas website.

There are only 2 ways around this:
  1. Keep checking and hope that some award inventory gets opened up before the date (or at least before T-24hrs)
  2. Try for an ODU in the QP (which does not require the U availability).

I assume from the message that K class is upgradeable; if it weren't the message would say so.

Any major route in/out of PER is a major struggle for upgrades these days. All you can do is keep trying but I don't fancy your chances.

I'm on QF802 PER-MEL on 17 July, returning QF769 on 21 July. I bought a SuperSaver on 21 April as soon as I had my MEL plans in place in order to maximise the chances of an UPG. To my pleasant surprise I managed to snare an UPG on both flights immediately. They are middle of the day flights, which may make some difference.

Thanks equus and Medhead. A work colleague was told he couldn't get an ODU in the MEL QP because he was only silver. I'll let him know to make a challenge if it happens again. :)

edit

QF is advertising this as a benefit for WP & SG, but it is a benefit, as you both so rightly said, for anyone that can get themselves to the service counter in a QP? (Rhetorical question the T&C's are very clear.)

Come on QF list it in the marketing blurb as a benefit for all!

Sorry a bit off topic.
