I am SG, and my partner is PS. Because of differing last return legs, we had to make separate bookings for our upcoming DRW-PER-LHR and LHR-MEL-DRW trip.

The bookings were linked so we would be seated together, and I was told that is was impossible to link the upgrade requests. Reading through the T+Cs for upgrades, this seems to be the correct advice.

The upgrade for the first (domestic) leg has just been confirmed, with points being deducted from my (SG) account for both bookings?

What are the chances they will use my status and points when deciding the PER-LHR upgrade?

Given the separate booking references, how have I managed to upgrade my partner?

Madrooster may be able to help.

My uneducated guess is that once the TCP bookings go into airport control, they merge. This is what I find when checking in when traveling with TCP bookings that I can see everyone listed as a part of my booking reference.

That probably explains a few things upgrade wise to me

TCP'd (linked) bookings do not necessarily mean you will be upgraded together, especially if you have different levels of status.

Thus my surprise when the points for her upgrade came from my account.

It seems the upgrade was applied as if we were on the same booking

When you put in the upgrade request, your QFF account would've been listed as the sponsoring QFF account. Thus the points get taken from your account.

You can apply for upgrades for family members and the points will be deducted from your account. The upgrade priority is based on the family members status.

In your case if you apply for an upgrade for yourself and your partner, your upgrade chance is higher than theirs. You may end up in different cabins. :(

Only exception I believe is P1 members who when they request upgrades for family members will have their P1 status influence the upgrade priority of the family member.
