Big thanks to Serfly for assistance over the past few days..... Have now booked my US status Run as follows

American Airlines Syd to Manchester on the 7th may. Qantas A380 flight to LA.. Leaving on the 10th May for Chigago to Manchester.... Cost 1549 AUD

8th May... Lax-ord-Mia-sju...... Cost 490 aud...
9th May.... Sju-Mia-ord-las-lax .... Cost 490 aud...

Can someone give me a quick check on the points and status credits.. Is it 740'status credits?

Now have got 180 status credits, plus will earn another 40 prior to leaving for the US... So 220... Need a Jasa status run suggestion.. Between now and 27th April to earn around 440 Sc... Or maybe I go for 480 to make sure I am gold before the US trip...

Will post details of my run....

Once again thanks to all... Especially serfly for assistance

Oh...have 160,000 frequent flyer points for the Jasa and the double status credit offer

A quick question... do you book on the american website or the australian website? for AA? or a third party?

AA.com, the US website.
Search " El Segundo" on the forum for CC payments ( basically you must enter a US Zip Code with the billing address for the card to be accepted)

use aa.com and, as suggested, El Segundo (or similar) gets you through the credit card checking.

On one occasion I used the address of my (former) company's US office. The other time I simply changed the residential (mailing) address of the credit card I used (to the former company), waited a week or two, then changed it back.

It 660 SC's for that run, so 220+40+660=820.

Pretty tough to get 480 Sc's between now and 27th April - although if you do, you'd be platinum by the time you return.

Booked a Jasa - Sydney - brisbane - Townsville on the 24th - 100 status credits; double to 200
then have a Jasa townsville - Brisbane - Adelaide - Sydney on the 25th - 180 status credits; double to 360...

So will get 560 for the trip.... With 220 on this.. Will be 780 and gold prior to my US flight... Assuming I earn 30 credits for syd to lax... 820 credits... Plus the 660 for the status run.. Should see platinum towards the end of my US status run... That's assuming the credits don't take too long to get through..

Will the gold / platinum get me any special treatment on the economy legs syd-lax and lax-ord-man...

What would my lounge access be ?

Gold before the trip gets you business lounge access plus better points earning. You also will have better seat selection and have a small/tiny chance of scoring an opup / free upgrade (has happen to me on this flight).

If you get platinum you'll have first lounge access, even better bonus points plus even better seat selection, might get individual greeting with offer for anything extra (like business class headsets) and even better chance (1%) of free upgrade.

Congratulations on the status enjoy the trip and the little extras!
