Using AA Trip Credit on Qantas

Received a USD$300 trip credit with AA a couple of months back for an involuntary downgrade (inop J seat on a (thankfully short) domestic sector). While I expected to use it in the US before expiry, that's now not the case and it'll expire before my next US trip in Oct/Nov.

Has anyone had any success in getting AA to book flights on Qantas or another OneWorld carrier with trip credit? I'm wondering if special conditions may apply (such as the QF domestic legs must be AA codeshare eligible). I understand anything not bookable on aa.com needs to go via AA call centre, just wondering if this is even possible before I go to the trouble or if I just gift this credit to U.S. based friends.

I had one of these in the past, I think you'll struggle to use it if not on an AA flight or codeshare (which typically requires connecting to another aa flight or destination). Pretty sure it ended up expiring.

You could probably book a full Y class domestic flight.
QF can price other OW carriers, but limited fare pricing is available, so I'm assuming AA could too.

Can you book a flight before its expiry for a flight after the expiry?

I did this for an AA trip credit last year. It expired in May 2023 but I used it on a trip for December 2023. Had to call them to do it over the phone though.

If your next US trip is in Oct/Nov, tickets for that period should be available for sale, maybe just use the credit on a flexible ticket and change if needed later.

flexible ticket and change if needed later.
Note that other than for "Basic Economy", currently AA domestic air fares have no change fee, so "flexibility" is not required.

One can cancel for fare credit to be used on another booking or change a booking and pay fare difference (this can result in a credit if the new fare is less).

Good point, I forgot I can book for later in the year as long as it's booked by the expiry date, just don't know I'll have that itinerary firmed up by the mid-March expiry.

I do have a need to get to Cairns in Feb, so that's first preference, otherwise I'll look at an Oct/Nov booking.
