HI there, first post in the BA forum :)
I am doing some research on the Avios program at the moment. I saw some articles that indicate it's reasonably good value on shorthaul flight in Australia.

Something that surprises me is that I can't seem to use them to book much when departing from CBR. Even with a simple CBR-SYD or CBR-MEL The only option I see is to go via BNE which sounds strange on many levels. Looking at different dates, far in the future of course.

Does Qantas release only a portion of it's domestic award seats to the Avios program? I am searching via the BA website

Edit: Can find those flights easily via Qatar website though. Strange.

Without having checked the specific routes you're looking at, I know that British Airways often doesn't display flights operated by QantasLink on its website. Most Qantas flights ex CBR are operated by QantasLink.

Have you tried calling Executive Club to see if you can book over the phone?

Ah right makes sense.
Yea not booking anything at this stage, was just trying to see what s possible to do with points. Qatar shows those qantaslink, so I guess it s possible to transfer avios and self-serve if needed.

That's certainly a possibility too, although you'd want to compare what the points would be booking with BA Avios versus QR Avios. In any event, you should be able to call to make the reward booking with British Airways for free. If they try and charge you to book over the phone, ask them how are you supposed to make the booking through their website?

TBH, the BA website is dreadful for this.

I tried booking paid fares ex CBR into SIN for end of year, and the BA website was utterly incapable of registering that Canberra was a real place with a BA codeshare. It didn't like Brisbane for the same reason.

Odd that QR's website shows it, probably just need to check it's the same redemption value as BA. Might also be worth getting in touch with BA themselves, see if they can sort it out for you.

Thanks for raising this and for some helpful comments that have been made around phoning in etc. I hadn't thought of that and hadn't realised why the availability from CBR has been so hard to find (ie. the Qantaslink thing). I'm sure a couple of years ago I did indeed redeem Avios on the BA site for flights from CBR - a nuisance of a development.
