Hi guys,

I will be going to Paris in a few weeks. when I get there, i would like to be able to use my unlocked iPhone to call home and use data (accessing maps, translation dictionaries etc.). I had a look at the roaming prices, and they seem excessive. For those of you who have travelled there before with your phones, can you recommend what options are available? either buying a sim card in Paris or buying a travel sim.

Would be grateful for your advice, recommendations or services you used.

Thanks,

Hi Raven,

Buy a prepaid sim in Paris, We have used Orange in the past Voda isn't too bad either.

Hi Raven,

By a pre paid SIM.

The only thing I will ask is do you have a I phone 3 or 4.

I phone 4 or 4S has a micro SIM card as all other phones on the market has mini SIM cards.

So if you have a 4 or 4S take a sim cutter with yourself.

We got sim cards from Bouygues Telecom and had no problems. My French is rusty schoolboy at best, but the lady in the shop was extremely helpful and patient and set everything up on the phone without even having to ask. Can't remember how much we paid, but it wasn't expensive and I would happily use them again.

My last 2 trips to Europe I have used a company called Maxroam.

I get the most use out of texting and data(web browsing) and the best thing about Maxroam is that it can be used in a heap of European countries.

If you are just staying in France then one of the suggestions above will probably work for you.

Cheaper than using the rip off rates from Telstra.
