Has anyone been able to book SYD-LAX-(US City on VA/DL codeshare list) via the website?
Although it's got a codeshare number, is on the destination map, and comes up in the list of selectable destinations, I keep getting the message that no flights are available.
Works fine for same metal via DL website using DL flight numbers.
If I want VA flight numbers (mainly for lounge access), do I have to go through the call centre or a travel agent?

It *looks* like this is happening because the VA website only displays VA flight numbers, yet the permitted routing on the fare that VA publishes from SYD to IND is on a combination of VA and DL flight numbers (no all-VA-flight-number options are available).

If this is what's causing the problem .. chalk this up as another fail for the VA website (they should be requiring one or more VA flights to display a fare, not all VA flight numbers to display it)

You may be able to book the flights you're after on Expedia or Zuji (though I had difficulties getting them to play nice, so you may be better off going to a decent TA)

I book to LA and then on with VX or DL. No protection if inbound flight is delayed necessarily as 2 PNRs which is frustrating. It is s big problem IMHO.

Last year i booked HBA-MEL-LAX-JFK and return IAD-LAX-SYD-HBA - all on VA and VX - but did it via the contact centre. It could have been because of the additional domestic leg, or because I was flying in and out of different cities - but they should be able to help you get it all on one itinerary.
