I am leaning heavily to becoming a DJ convert after my recent amazing flight experience with them.

I know all the ins and outs of how to upgrade a Domestic booking to J on QF. I know all the ins and outs of QF's booking engine, know how to check for upgrade availability, know how to request upgrades, know fare classes that can be upgraded... etc etc.

What I am after is any information you can give me on how to do this for Virgin - namely:

- How to search for upgrade availability,
- How many points does a PER-MEL / PER-SYD upgrade cost,
- What fare class do you need to buy to upgrade?
- Can you upgrade online?
- Any difference between International and Domestic upgrade process?

Can anyone please point me in the right direction? :)

Can't search online, need to call (availability is better than award availability)
Fro points there is a chart on the Virgin website (currently at half points), or for Plat members there are four freebies
You need to buy a flexi fare
No
I think longhaul international in process of being introduced

I'll try to help from recent experience

- How to search for upgrade availability,
Technically you need to call the contact centre. In practice, the class of the upgrade booking appears to be preferred by DJ over the "award business seat" availability. If you check for award bookings online on the flights you're after, it seems to be a good indication, but it's good to confirm with the GCC

- How many points does a PER-MEL / PER-SYD upgrade cost,
The prices are on special at the moment - half price until the end of the year:

Edit:
PER-MEL/SYD is in "zone 3" which is regularly 9,900 points per leg, but is on special currently at 4,950 points per leg.

- What fare class do you need to buy to upgrade?
You need to buy a flexi fare

- Can you upgrade online?
Not to my knowledge, it says you have to contact the call centre

- Any difference between International and Domestic upgrade process?
Short Haul international differs to Long haul international. There's another thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....international-upgrades-with-points-41816.html I think which goes into that.

Hope this helps.
