Considering you can fly up to 15 June that's excellent. Not many deals have gone past the end of May. Am assuming you have to return by that date.

Here's hoping that the downturn means that there will be some decent deals during the peak as well. Not as good as this of course but any saving will be very handy.

I have the feeling from recent experience that advance booking is not always the cheapest way to get seats anymore, except for travel during traditionally high season like Christmas / new year, we are looking to go in Sep for leisure and will not book unless the price is back at ~$1200 again.

While that is possibly true, you are taking a gamble that low prices will be available shortly before travel - may or may not happen. But certainly for Sept, I'd be waiting as well>

March/April suits an additional family ski trip - they prefer spring sun and heated swimming pools. And I prefer the really cheap lift ticket priices, eg usually around $6.50 a day x 14 days at a west coast resort).

PS: Just got a without prejudice offer from Junkstar for ruining my trip to Nagoya.

Yes I'm holding off for the September trip. Would have to get better but how late do you leave it? We (family of 4) are planning on going to YVR (Vancouver) with a side trip to LAX and Disney. Can get around $2200 (now) SYD-YVR with Air Canada direct for then. But if LAX fares get better then we'd consider that. Saves doing the side trip with the additional costs although there are some sensational deals with airfares and Disney with Alaska Air (ex-YVR) from time to time.

Westjet/Southwest have a promo code 'GOCANADA' for some flights. I don't have details. try it and seee if it helps you

I was casually browsing the Qantas site to start preparing for an upcoming US trip and I saw there were some amazingly cheap fares between SYD and LAX. There was the helpful "Hurry" flashing on the return leg so I quickly snapped up a lovely brace in April (QF107/108) for $1526.44.

Thanks V-Oz!

Not going to help competetion wise if everyone sticks with the previous monopolist :)

Too true .... but I am desperately trying to maintain Gold QFF this year and in any case the equivalent V-Oz flights are only $22 less and route me via Brisbane on the way over. The direct V-Oz SYD/LAX is an evening flight that would mean getting to my final destination near midnight.

And my colleagues will more than make up the difference due to our BFOD policy and the fact that the QF cheapies will more than likely be gone by the time they book it.

On another forum, one of the new V flights has apparently been moved to arrive in LA in the morning.

I certainly hope V are realising that many just want to get to their real holiday destination - somewhere else - on the same day as landing in LA.
