Hi there

I had an actual walk through at the Australian delivery event today in Sydney.

I was very impressed with the fitout of the aircraft, the seats in all classes are very comfortable even down the back of the 777, but that is mainly because there hasn't been many people on it yet to destroy the cushioning.

Little things like the salt & pepper shakers in J which are shaped in the form of the opera house and the PJ's with the V Australia motif which i was unable to pilfer:rolleyes:

It seems that there is a lot of attention to detail has gone into V Australia.

The self serve bar seemed well stocked with various bottles of spirits, which looked like they had been enjoyed by the pax on the ferry flight, and some strange beers, I think they were American boutique beers.

I did take some photo's which didn't come out too good :-|
I'm sure some of the professional photographers will have some shots around the various aviation websites soon.

Cheers

Doesn't look all the flash to me from the the VA website. J does not look all that inviting, probably at best similar to QF Prem Econ. If the fares are the right price, it may look more attractive! J class on VS is very different and looks and feels more like a premium cabin. Only time will tell. Happy to have competition on the route, but up the front is where it may struggle unless the price is right.

D. J does not look all that inviting, probably at best similar to QF Prem Econ. ..

Since when has QF premium economy had flat beds????

I agree - I think the herringbone style beds would have been much nicer - you don't really want to be stuck in the middle of 3 on J.

... nor in the middle of 5 in WHY ...

oops - it's an optical illusion. :o

The third picture in post #4 seems to show 5 across (it doesn't help having to horizontal scroll to see it properly).

I didnt realise they'd gone 2/5/2.

See, I like 2/5/2. The plane (well, Y) needs to be >89% full to have this seat filled along each row. Which means 89% DONT have to climb over.

And couples get a 2 together and dont have to climb over any strangers (which they would in a 3/3/3 config).

EDIT: Pics show 3 blocks. What were you referring to serfty?

I doubt that would happen very often to a solo traveller. QF are very good at ensuring solo travellers are not placed in the E seats in business class on the lower deck of the 747. In my experience, the E seats go to passengers travelling in a group so are adjacent to their travelling party in the D and/or F seats. I would expect VA will undertake similar efforts when allocating seats. But there is always the slight chance that it won't work to plan and someone may get stuck in the middle seat with unknown neighbours.

I actually prefer QF's D and F seats on the 744 lower deck since there is a reasonable chance the E seats may be unoccupied and on every occasion when it has been occupied the E passenger has been travelling with the other aisle passenger and has 100% of the time climbed into the aisle over their partner and not over me. So I have had great success in ensuring no climb over on such a seating configuration (unlike window block and upper deck).

So I don't see a 2x3x2 config in J as being all bad. It actually works better for travelling parties than the herringbone config. The herringbone config is god for solo passengers.

Here's a smaller image:

And some more (which clearly show 3x3x3):

Bummer, I do like a/c that have 2s down both sides (A330/340/MD11/767 etc) as it's great travelling as a couple.

If i'm on my own, unless the person next to me is a total nightmare, i dont really care where i sit if it's an aisle.

Hi there

What i found interesting was that PE is 2-4-2 and the safety video is an animation, which was amusing while also conveying the right message probably just the thing for kids, since most adults ignore the safety briefing

PE is usually 2-4-2 on the 777 and 747

Also Virgin Atlantic & BA also have animated safety briefings

I'll be on their inaugural LAX-SYD flight, I'll be taking some pics to see how it fares during normal use!

How do they get the wider seats in PE in a 2-4-2 combo instead of 3-3-3?

Great! Which class are you travelling?

PE eight abreast, Y is 9.

They're different seats (ie not convertable like the seats in DJ planes) if that's what you mean.

Hi there

Just got an invite from Virgin for a MEL-SYD 777 flight on FEB26

Unfortunatley i'll be in London :(, Oh well it is nice to have been on the list.

Animated is a hell of alot cheaper as well.... No talent costs no physical shoot days etc etc.
