V Australia Seating.. Intl Upgrades for Gold's

Going on a Syd>LAX>IAD>LAX>Syd with V Australia (IAD>Delta) . I am interested to understand how V Australia look after Golds?

In Qantas in Eco with Gold/Plat I was at least in a Exit/Greeted by CSM?? and scored the odd Upgrade (Very Bloody rare with No Points) .

Anyway keen to get the good oil on how the best way to get some legroom and not pay for it .. Any advice?

Can you use pointe to upgrade Prem Eco? or Bus? .. I find it hard to find detail in this regard.

Check in very early, flash your gold Velocity card (your profile makes no mention of Velocity membership - sorry to tell you a gold QFF card wont cut it) and ask nicely. Try ringing the guest contact centre a few days before and request a note be made in your reservation.

I've certainly been able to see fare availability and seat maps for VA flights in Expert Flyer, so yes - that information is available.

Update..

Ok I spoke with the V guest centre in Brissy.. (Flying out Friday 10th Sep) They seem like they are really under the pump.. I actually dialled the number on my Gold card and went to Velocity in Manilla and they told me to ring the 131??? number and make sure I press "Business Seats" for priority..

Anyway the time was 15 mins until answered (I did not care as I had it on speaker and was later day ) .. Anyway the first thing I said to the guest services is that I pressed the Business seats priority but was regarding my existing economy flying!.. She was cool about it but I felt sort of naughty! but hey I am Gold ..

Anyway I told the lady the usual "Pog" story 6"4 broad shoulders and all I care about is legroom and/or block a seat at lest!..

Interesting thing was they could not assign a seat ? but they did mention they would put a note in > after I prompted ..

Anyway ..

If I could not get a Emerg Exit or somehow strike gold and hit Prem Eco on my first V Aus trip what seat would be the next best!

I like 51AC>HK (sit & block) but could not get that assigned as they have a CPAP (sleep apnea) power socket??

V Aus are an aircraft down at the moment, after a LAX-BNE flight was pushed back in to the blast screen at LAX the other day, so they are having to juggle passengers between flights.

Strategic has doing some of the coughets I believe with the A330.

I wouldn't be hanging out for an upgrade, but you never know your luck if they need your Y seat for a smelly backpacker.

My wife and son booked Premium Economy to LAX from BNE in August. I am a Gold Velocity Member and on arrival at the Business/Gold checkin, was told that we had been upgraded to Business. Plane was full so think they probably oversold premium economy. I was also told that I was the only Gold Member on the flight by the FA on board so obviously they do know who they actually have on board and their status. Just missed a upgrade on return as we were on the flight that was cancelled form LAX to BNE when it was damaged on a blast screen. We were told had we flown we would have been in business - love Virgin and V Australia!

Flying Syd-LAX I was first handed a Emerg seat.. I then went to the club (Malaysian) then as I went through the ticket checker to board my Ticket was upgraded to Prem Eco..

What can I say .. It was great This service was everything QF J is except the lay back seat!.

On the way back I got the emerg window and the centre seat blocked.. This was the best flight I have had on any airline and actually slept... The Hosties were great and even got me a headset from Prem Eco (I did not ask for this) They knew I was gold.. ;?

The USA flying with Delta was horrible.. I will never fly Delta if I can help it again.I had to explain to them on a few occasions that VAustralia are actually partners for the lounge.. They did not let me in to the Skyclub at Atlanta!! Wtf .. Must admit they are pretty coughpy compared to Virgin Aus lounges... I also spent many weeks trying to get the Delta points allocated on my Velocity account.

Velocity gold means NOTHING on Delta .. Seats were **** (Always in the middle) and overage on baggage was always charged..

QF have their **** together on USA travel (AA) as it was always a breeze and they recog QF Plats/Golds.


Anyway I have a heap of Hong Kong trips ready to book and really want to go Virgin Atlantic but need to understand the "Velocity Gold" match on that Airline.. Do they see a Velo Gold as their own? Seating? Upgrades?
