Hey all,
I am thinking about writing to V Australia / Virgin Australia about potential 'sponsorship'.
Because I'm competing in the USA in September for a World Championship for a prominent arcade video game that is popular in Australia and HUGE in America.
I am actually the only person ever to qualify outside the USA and have competed the last two years, 2009 coming last then in 2010 I made it to 4th place and I am a genuine chance of winning it this year.
To cut a long story short I wouldn't be after monetary sponsorship just an 'upgrade' from economy to PE for my flights (because I have a very short turnaround not being able to miss too much work and being that the competition is in Chicago so flying from Adelaide I get hit pretty hard from jetlag), In exchange for me wearing a V Australia / Virgin Australia T-Shirt during the whole event.
The championship usually gets pretty broad news coverage in the USA and even feature in the New York times, especially now that huge Motorcross / TV (nitro circus) / Rally star Travis Pastrana is now a regular competitor.
It could be beneficial for V Australia / Virgin Australia as an interesting thing to tweet about, I could even compile a blog for them etc to help bring value from the 'sponsorship', could be good for them looking to expand the brand into USA.
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts of what my chances would be of actually getting a positive response from the company, I have heard they are pretty tight on sponsorship related stuff.
Cheers,
NC
