VA Bag Tags

I wish VA would rethink the design of their bag tags. They work fine on hand luggage but fail miserably on checked luggage. I like using them there as it provides a form of ID without needing to include my phone and email details.

This is trip I got my bag back with the metal rope and the eyelet from the tag but no tag. Last trip I got my back back with half a tag left on it.

The durable QF tags are much more appealing and long lasting.

I suspect that the VA logic is that the current system works 'OK' and that they happily and quickly replace them when asked so it's not seen as a problem from their end.

This is good to know, our Silver one worked fine on long haul checked, but I may have to cable tie the new Gold ones so they stay put. I never trusted the wire anyway.........

No, the wire's not the problem, it's always still attached to the bag! We've had the same issue several times Milboo, the VA tags seem to break off quite easily if they catch on anything or are "flexed" in any way - we even had one almost-new tag snap in half when it snagged briefly as we getting the bags out of the car boot at (luckily) the end of a trip.

I have half a gold tag and I leave this on so it is easy to identify the bag on the carousel.

The wire is a good idea and is not the issue

CS: You cant have FOUR! You can only have two
Me: Then why did you ask how many I would like?

I asked for 2, only one showed up.

Should be allowed 3 if WP since that's their included allowance.

Bag tags work well for those pax who put them on their laptop bags

I'd say the wire is the problem, because it is substantially stronger than the other parts of the process and has no flex/give. Bag tag gets caught then it becomes the point that's going to fail first. But that's probably preferable to having the wire rip the luggage attachment point.
The old style rubber attachment loop (not sure if VA ever used these) at least had some give, so probably a bit more chance of a spring back and release of the tag if caught. Having said that, my old school Qantas club tag was also badly damaged with one of the rubber loops. There's nothing inherent about the VA tags that make them susceptible to damage.

You should email them and whenever you need a new one just resend the same email from you sent folder.

Should be allowed 3 if WP since that's their included allowance.

I think it should be based your baggage allowance for the highest fare (Silver 2, Gold 2, Plat 3).

I had one snap off last week returning from BKK, made a call this morning as I wasn't sure if they reissued them when retaining status or not. Lady asked how many I required and I asked for 3, she said no worries Mr Silver that has been processed and should receive them within 14 days.

The couple of times I have asked there has not been a problem and they have come quite quickly. Maybe they KWIA :!:

The QF 'coasters' are durable but would go down as one of the most ugly bag tags I have seen. I take them off whenever they are not absolutely needed.

Noob question here but I've just flown through to silver (and passing through to gold early next month) for the first time ever. Do VFF actually proactively send these out (along with a new card) or do you need to call and request them?

They will be sent automatically, but allow a couple of weeks.

I hit silver and then 4 days later hit gold and received my gold pack before my silver pack

I have an engraving machine and laser at work. I'm thinking of making my own set from actual metal, complete with my details engraved on it. Anyone interested in a prototype? Preferably a frequent flyer who can run it though some rigorous test flights.

Just received some new Platinum Luggage labels and noticed a minor change that's been made.

My old ones had the Virgin Australia logo in the bottom RH corner, my new ones now include the notation ""loyalty program of" directly above the logo.
