VA business to Europe

Hi all

Need to to Dublin for 4 days, have 1.2m VA miles and platinum status

Happy to just do business returning leg need to depart over there on 12/8 or 13/8

I am absolutely hopeless and clues hence the miles accumulated and never used ,

If I buy economy flex with virgin on Qatar can I apply to upgrade like if it was a domestic flight ? There doesn’t seem to be any virgin reward business available

Anyone know how to get them with etihad or Singapore , if there are some experts here who could find a seat I would more then happily pay you for your services

I don’t like your chances. I have about those points, but have had to purchase J fares for my wife and I on Etihad. Qatar looked even more impossible.

Have you considered looking at getting a paid flight to somewhere in Asia then looking for reward seats?

I’ve seen many YouTube videos advocating this, but I’m not that keen on putting my faith in a connection from Bangkok or wherever.

I’d happily do that if I could , I’ll just have hand luggage

Flying economy never bothers me hence all the miles , but with a 4 day turnaround business would be good but it all seems so hard with VA to use them

Kind of better off with qantas so , not trying to start argument for those that pro qantas but if you want to use points for international seems virgin isn’t much good

Zurich to Brisbane or Melbourne is available 13/8 if you transfer to Krisflyer and book through Singapore.

Biz flights out of Jakarta or Manila etc, can be amazingly cheap compared to here. Etihad is $A2700 return on your August dates.

Or move Virgin points to SQ and use those miles for a SIN-Europe Biz, or if you are flexible you'll get somewhere OZ-SIN-EUROPE. You have not bothered to tell us where you are based in OZ

Anywhere in Europe will work as heaps cheap flights to DUB.

for some reason i cant get it from Dub to LHR , but i can if i just start at LHR. my only concern is the dub LHR connection if anything was to go wrong.

You can get Doha to Dublin Business reward on both of those dates

You can call VFF up, and use points on partners, they can see flights.
You can also see them to some extent.
You dont have to transfer points to SQ KF, but if you do, you will lose about 35% in the process as its not 1:1.
Aug is not that far away.
If SQ does not release seats to VFF, you wont see them.
For that short a trip, maybe buying a rev fare would be the best, as its only 2 months between now and flight date.
If its lets say, to fly in Jan/Feb, then you can play a waiting game.
I would just buy a rev seat, and pay a bit more to sit on the 2 abrest, if available on the SQ 380, or the 350 up ahead, ie, Y towards the front.
SQ might also be a bit more lenient to their KF members about reward seats.
If you transfer 200,000 VFF to KF, you will lose about 70,000 VFF points, so get about 135,000 KF miles, just enough for a one way premY reward.
Maybe 350,000 VFF = 227,500 KF miles, *might be enough* for one way J.
If ABF ask why, you flew so short and stayed away so short a time, just say its for work, or what ever truthful reason.

Thanks i can see Business on Krisflyer available on Advantage , but not on saver
150,000 krislfyer miles for advantage (135,000 on saver)

rang VA and they cant see the same flight, so looks like a transfer to Krisflyer.

And NEVER forget, moving points to KF gets the expiry clock ticking. Two years or whatever to use points, or they are gone.

Biz award seats visible right now may not be there in 10 minutes. And like all things SQ, they are totally inflexible.

Wanted to change dates a few months back, and was happy to pay the change fee.

Biz awards SIN-SYD were showing clearly. They refused to change them 'as those seats are only available for NEW bookings'. Replied surely Award Biz are in the same fare bucket. 'No Sir, they are not'. WTF?? They have many bizarre rules.

I’ve used VA points for many international J flights over the years and have found very good availability when I’ve needed it
