Help! Hope someone can clarify this for me, as it seems from what is stated on the Velocity website, that VA codeshare flights on SQ metal (regardless of fare class) are NOT eligible for Velocity points??

On the Velocity website Points Earn page, under Singapore Airlines, it states "When travelling on eligible Singapore Airlines fares and flights with a Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight number, you can earn Points on your ticket. You can also earn Status Credits on all eligible fare types.

Then there's the table of eligible fare classes. However underneath it says:

"Points will not be earned on fare classes other than as specified above. You cannot earn Points on codeshare flights other than those operated by Virgin Australia. SilkAir operated flights are not eligible for Points or Status Credits accrual"

So I take this to mean that if we book directly with SQ in an eligible fare class (flights from Perth to London return), we will earn points and status credits - however if we book the same flights via the VA website (i.e. codeshare flights), we would not be eligible for any Velocity points earn at all as the flights are operated by SQ and not VA?? Is this correct?

Also, SQ have released their Earlybird fares today, and in the Ts & Cs at the bottom of the ad, it states that the fare class for flights Perth-London is "N" which is eligible for 50% Velocity points earn. Not so, according to the Velocity website, which states that N class fares with SQ are ineligible.

We wanted to get this sorted out before we booked flights - we don't regularly do longhaul flights and don't want to miss out on points earn for the ones we DO take. We would prefer to book on VA codeshares as these would then count towards eligible sectors ... but not if we're totally ineligible for points!

I think what it's getting at (your highlighted/bolded line) is that you won't earn SCs on SQ Codeshare flights *unless* they're operated by Virgin (i.e. if you fly to Europe and then fly on LH metal or similar).

My understanding is that as long as the fare class is eligible for earn, if you book it through SQ on SQ metal (no VA codeshare) that you'll earn velocity SCs (provided you give them your number and/or lodge a retro claim).

The SQ base "saver" fare will often not be eligible for earn, however.

That's what I mean ... I thought with the codeshare arrangement, we would be able to book the flights through either the SQ or the VA website, but it appears we have to book directly with SQ to ensure we can get points and SCs.

Yes, I've noticed the exclusions on the Velocity website re certain fare classes with SQ not being eligible for SCs - hence my other query re the N class fares, as SQ say they're eligible (albeit at a 50% points earn rate) but VA say they're not eligible at all!!

What this means is that if you are travelling on an SQ flight number, it must either be operated by SQ or VA in order to get points.

What is the exact wording of the ad? 'N' class certainly earns 50% mileage if creditting toward Krisflyer.

The exact wording of the ad is: "Booking Class: N Class for London and W class for all other destinations. Fares to London are eligible for 50% Krisflyer mileage or Velocity mileage accrual, but are not valid for redemption upgrades."

Thanks oz_mark, I know SQ flight numbers are eligible, but my query is if we were travelling on a VA flight number (codeshare booked through Virgin website) but operated by SQ, as to whether the flight would be eligible for points, but it would appear they're not.

With a VA flight number you need to refer to the Velocity rules for VA, not those for SQ.

Oh DUH!!! It would appear I'm a complete idiot  Didn't even think of that - I assumed that if the flight was operated by SQ, then I'd have to check the SQ Velocity rules. Many thanks Serfty, and apologies from a dumb (and inexperienced) not-so-frequent flyer!
