Hi everyone,

We are flying to LAX in a few days in Economy X and VA has listed as a benefit that there are NC headphones.

Are they any good? Sound wise and comfort?

I'm presuming they only work for the IFE and not to plug into my iphone etc.

I'm planning on buying some Bose QC35 headphones anyway as the constant engine sound is like fingernails down a blackboard to me. I might put it off til we get to America though if the VA ones are bearable.

Thanks!

Hi, I was in EconX MEL to HKG and used these....they are ok but nowhere near as purchased NC ones. I did try them in my Iphone but only sound from one side.

Just landed in LAX. Buy the QC35's! They are excellent quality. The NC headphones for Economy X are okay but don't even compare to a decent brand.

Sennheiser PXC550s are amazing. Can be had for around the same as the BOSE.

We flew YX on Tuesday - husband and I have the QC25's but our kids had the courtesy VA ones. I tested them against the Bose and there is no comparison. The noise cancelling effect is minimal and the plug is a 3 pin version that is annoying to align in the dark each time your kid removes it.

They are better than the toys handed out in economy, but not for anyone wanting serious sound quality.

I would like to think that the quality of headphones which retail at almost AUD500 would exceed the quality of the headphones provided to those travelling in YX.

Yes I would too. But if I could cope for the trip to LAX then buy them when I arrive I could do that. After reading some opinions I'll buy them here. I have other headphones I'm happy with for music etc but they're not noise cancelling. The lack of NC that Clipped Wings has pointed out has sold me on buying them here. NC headphones + valium = sleep (hopefully).

Thank you. Your opinion has helped immensely. Definitely getting some this week before I go.

I bought the Bose QC35 and the verdict onboard was the NC killed the VA ones. With the Bose I didn't hear the engine noise. I could still hear it with the VA ones. The sound quality of them was fine for movies etc and the engine noise was definitely muted but if it really peeves you then give them a miss.
