VA Status Match/ Challenge

Hi all,

I am mostly a QF FFer however I do want to build up some status with Velocity for the wider partnerships/ more flexibility travelling domestically. Do they offer any sort of Gold challenge/ match (or higher) to a QFWP? Note: no business programs as its personal travel/ no ABN.

If not, am I correct in understanding that a return (In J) booked via VA travelling MEL-LHR (either SQ, EY, VS) would qualify enough in terms of SCs and sectors for VA gold just by itself? Reading the tables it seems that way but I also don't want to book anything to just fall short.

Not many successful reports on VA offering matches or challenges, but it has happened.

As you mention VA status is fairly easy to achieve so that's almost as good as a challenge. If you book flights with VA flight numbers you will earn sectors. I think Gold is achievable with a return J flight to Europe booked with VA flight numbers, but it's too vague a question for me to say 100%. Just use the earning tables and if you want to check post your full itinerary.

@calmelb there is "pilot gold" ... it may be possible.

Do a search - I'm not in a position to enlighten currently.

Pilot Gold is generally only available for Accelerate business members who spend $XX with Virgin. However, if you manage to get VA to match your status, it is likely they'd do it via Pilot Gold. It's kind of a blend between a match and a challenge. You'll get Gold status immediately but for a limited time, and need to achieve XX SC to maintain it.

Another option is to do the DL status challenge.
The challenge is fairly easy and on completion you have the duel benefit of SkyTeam Elite Plus status and VA benefits such as lounge access, additional luggage allowance, PB etc

First time posting, sorry to jump in. I’m still not clear on outcome. Can you get a status match from qantas with velocity?? I’m currently gold with velocity and QFF however flown more qantas over past 6 months. Our company has recently signed exclusive contract with virgin which leaves me 70 SC short of platinum with qantas and my velocity gold expiring end of month. Any solutions?? I’m travelling nationally at least 1 or 2 times a week and NZ. I do realise I will get these back rather quickly but don’t want to lose my privilege in meantime.

There is no published way for an individual to status match on Velocity.

You may be able to request Pilot Gold through your company.
