I have just received an email from Amex offering a year's status for transferring Membership Rewards points to VFF from my Platinum Charge. 250K for VA Gold 500K for VA Platinum.
I don't have enough points for the Platinum offer and am already VA Gold so am unlikely to take them up.
However on the face of it, it isn't a bad deal. Given that there is 20% transfer bonus on:
I imagine not many people use 500K points on VA metal but would be an easy way to status if you did*
If not, you are effectively paying for VA Platinum with ~39000 Krisflyer miles (the difference between transferring directly and via VFF during the offer)
Of course you do lose the flexibility to transfer to other airlines but I imagine it could suit some people
No comment on gaining status without flying
*I suppose most people who would use this many points on VA would have status aleady but could be worked to advantage if the membership year is suitable and by family pooling
