lol... so that's where this fare came from? Friends of mine went to their travel agency and were quoted this $4600 fare for Virgin to LAX. My friends asked me if that was a good fare and I couldn't replicate it anywhere - getting QF for around $1000 more.

So they made all the bookings with the agent, but then when they went to pay two days later the agent said 'oh, sorry, the fare isn't available'. Ha!

Looks like there's some reduced fares in J to LAX available today via the VA sale with no travel industry restrictions. Had a look at some quick dates e.g. 4/10/16 to 20/10/16 for $5200

For exactly one fifth of that J price I've grabbed a Y return via Delta on VA. Got the Delta email a day before VA and by booking using their site I seem to have avoided the $25 credit card booking fee. Not as good as those $400 deals a few weeks back but it'll do.
