VA upgrade saver to flexi ?

Is it possible to change a saver ticket to a flexi? I have a work trip coming up BNE-PER and I had to buy the cheapest ie Saver. I am a VA plat and since this is an A330 I would like to see if it's possible to upgrade to J via first changing to flexi ( and pay for it myself) and then using the free upgrade. Has anyone done this and if so - is there any extra costs apart from the difference in fare?

Will cost you he $80 change fee plus any fare difference as outlined here. If you call up to change it within an hour or two of booking they may waive the fee, but otherwise it is almost always charged in my experience.

So it will be 80 plus fare difference of 160 ie 240. Or I can use points to upgrade from saver. Do you know if it is 20,000 or 30,000 to upgrade from Saver to J on BNE-PER ?

30k is pretty steep. Might slum it out in the back.

Since work paid the initial fare, I'd have no hesitation in paying $240 to get J transcon. It's worth it IMHO.

Ended up using points to upgrade . 30k points - I'll apply for the NAB plat card and get 40k back - $150 so cheaper.
