My daughter who is VA WP flew SYD-CDG via SIN in Y

I purchased for her an extra seat for her flight.

SYD-SIN (B777) she got 41A on boarding pass. In flight they blocked off 41B as her extra seat and another pax was in 41C
SIN-CDG (A380)she got 41B on boarding pass. In flight she had A,B,C to herself in an otherwise full flight (as far as she can ascertain in her cabin.

I would have said perhaps one pax in either A or C missed their flight. But why did they give her seat B.
I have a sneaking suspicion that they gave her B to make it easier to allocate her A as her extra seat and C as a shadow???. But Im told VA does not do shadows but this is SQ??.

SQ checkin did mention aloud "oh you are platinum " when she presented her VA plat card with passport.

If it was a gesture from SQ - much appreciated as she slept most of the way to CDG
maybe it was just a fluke.

Did she remain in B? If she jumped into either A or C, it would have been conceivable on a full flight, for another pax to relocate themselves! Doubly lucky I guess.

Glad it worked out. I remember a SQ flight I took there was a fracas at the gate with a gent very upset his extra seat was at the other end of the Y cabin to where he was seated.

When we saw the B seat on boarding pass, I told her to sit in B and the extra seat would be either A or C. This would be less enticing for other pax as there are now no continuous row of 2 seats.

The anxiety with extra seat is that the extra seat may be on the other side of the cabin, and there is no boarding pass to prove you bought that extra seat especially when other pax try to occupy that extra seat for free

I don't think I would ever pay for 2 economy seats. Maybe that's just me!

I was discussing this option (buying extra Y seat) with my husband the other day for flights less than 5hrs. But then again, I have NZ 3.5hrs flights booked in J so I cant commit to my own rule.

Well further to this for the return flight on SQ333. (a380) CDG to SIN daughter got bulkhead seat plus adjacent seat.

SQ211 Sin-syd. (B777) she got 40a, 40b extra seat and 40c was blocked on full flight

i think SQ does something extra for VA WP buying an extra seat. It was a group ticket in bucket G so not eligible for VA SC /FF but the row of 3 for 2 out of 4 legs more than makes up for it. Seemed like an unofficial shadow...
