With news that Live to Air is no longer available I have to say I am a little sad, while it was not the most reliable IFE it was quite unique when it came to watching live sports etc. So far I have enjoyed the new WiFi options on offer and pleased to see content being updated. While I understand some folks dont like BYO, I suspect its a tidal wave that you cannot ignore, especially when you look at costs and the effect things like live to air have on an aircrafts performance fuel wise!

I was a huge fan of Live 2 Air , mainly for the live aspect as you mentioned of Sport & news . I have enjoyed the new wireless streaming and have adopted to it ok , but I am a person who likes watching "here & now"...LIVE. It is , what it is . RIP Live 2 Air

Agreed that Live Sports was a big benefit of Live2Air...
much like the QF birds with ABC radio is great over the summer when the cricket is on.

Headline news was good plus the MTV or whatever it was called, I hope that the new system has a bit more music choice.

The last flight I took was on the day of the Aus Open women's final. I was really hoping to get an old plane with L2A, but no such luck. Then I was hoping there would be a live sport option on the new system, but sadly it doesn't seem to be part of the package.

And yeah, it was great to get live news, even if it was Murdoch-approved. :P

Other than increased fuel burn alluded to by markis10, BYO devices with streaming Live2Air would have been pretty cool!

I found it useful the few times I used it on Virgin Blue.

Not so fond memories of watching Richmond get beaten by 157 points by Geelong while flying across the Nullarbor at 38,000ft.
It was agony. Wouldn't have minded if the plane ditched into the sea (joking). Many Bundy & Cokes were consumed to dull the pain.

I also remember flying PE before J came in and having the whole row to myself with three TV screens on three different live sports. Heaven.

I did love being able to get live news on early flights where I hadn't had a chance to check on the ground.

Live to Air was awesome - Have few memories of it, back in a day where my travel on DJ (Or anyone for that matter) was limited. It sure beats the current BYO IFE system with its somewhat limited options & lack of updates....
Then again, the normal person would only use the IFE when they fly, which for some people is once in a blue moon...

...not however it's Gold & Plat members :?

On a flight to MEL last week sitting in row 3 my conversation with the CSM went something like this. (me) Is this aircraft fitted with the wifi entertainment system. (CSM) No sorry but this is one of only 2, 737's left in the fleet that have not had it fitted. (me) oh ok then am I able to get a samsung tablet? (CSM) no sorry but because we are not renewing the foxtel contract no one has any IFE so the tablets will be for business class only. Lucky I had my ipad with me but there were plenty of unhappy punters.
On the plus side my flight home last night did have the wifi installed and all of the content has been updated since I last used it a couple of weeks ago.

VA is pretty good updating its Galaxy/Streaming content, much more frequently than Qantas at least (on its Qstreaming content), on domestic flights. Sometimes more often than I'd wish lol, as I've had a few half-finished movies.

It would be cool if you could have a login/profile for the WiFi streaming so it remembers what you have watched and where you are up in in shows/movies.

Think I'm on the same aircraft :? Captain has just come over the inter-com saying it is on the 738, but that it is having troubles.... Looking in front of me at a blank Live2Air Screen, know I won't get that.... If there isn't any WiFi, then things are off to a bad start...

Why a 2 hour flight BNE/MEL have no WiFi IFE is beyond me :? Why not one of the shorter routes (ie BNE/SYD).... I don't know...

It would just be nice if the BYOD WIFI IFE would work on Windows Phone and Windows RT instead of just IOS & Android. The last few flights I have noted a number of frustrated users. Perhaps the VA person lurking around can look into this?

Completely agree. As it requires Microsoft Silverlight for non-ios/android devices it means all three devices I own are not compatible.

Pretty crazy that Microsoft doesn't allow Silverlight on its Tablets, yet has allowed Flash, a technology that has been panned.

Personally with Microsoft not supporting Silverlight I don't hold much out for the future of MS Phones or Tablets full stop.
