Just a data point here, I’m QF WP and currently on the way back to Australia on QF76 at YVR In J.

I was having some trouble working out whether we had lounge access or not. So I checked in the old-fashioned way with the human and was directed to the Skyteam lounge at gate D 53 and I’m currently in there. It’s not wonderful but it beats paying $20 for a beer with the great unwashed. 😁

Cathay lounge wasn’t open due to no Cathay flight.

Qantas recently made major arrangements for Cathay in Brisbane, extending the QF BNE lounge hours well after the last Qantas flight so they can cater for CX's services.

I think it would be great if CX gave QF something in return, and changing the CX lounge hours in YVR to cater for QF would be the ideal option. QF shouldn't have to resort to making deals with rival alliances for lounge arrangements.

I'm sure $$$ was paid by Cathay to keep it open. It's not exactly charity here. QF already has a contracted lounge in YVR and likely don't want to pay for CX rates. Sad though as CX lounges in general are great.

Same in SFO. QF uses the AF lounge (same as QR) rather then the CX or BA lounges (or the AA lounge in T1).
