Velocity Amex - additional sign-on points only when you are referred by a friend

The current advertised Velocity Amex deals are as follows:

Velocity Gold Amex - earn 15,000 bonus Velocity points when you spend $500 on the card in the first 3 months. Uncapped 1.25:$1 earn on purchases. Special $99 annual fee for the first year (normally $199) + 2 Virgin Lounge passes.

Velocity Platinum Amex - earn 25,000 bonus Velocity points when you spend $500 on the card in the first 3 months. Uncapped 1.5:$1 earn on purchases. Standard $349 annual fee + a return domestic flight each year to selected Virgin Australia destinations.

HOWEVER, if you make your application as a result of being referral by a friend or family member, the bonus points for increased to 20,000 Velocity points for the Gold Amex and 32,000 for the Platinum Amex.

The person referring you also receives bonus points. If anyone is interested I would obviously be more than happy to send you an official Amex referral for either card if you PM me your email address (I don't need your name or any other details). I obviously add the disclaimer that as a Velocity Gold Amex card holder I would receive bonus points as well.

You can only get the additional bonus points when you are referred to by someone else.

Unsure these are the best deals out there with referrals.

20k points available for Amex Plat Edge for $149/year and a domestic flight included.

40k for Amex Plat Reserve for $395/year and includes a flight to selected NZ cities.

Thanks burmans for the referral link! I really appreciate that.

Just a bit of correction, with Amex Plat Edge, we can only get 15000 bonus points even though we apply thru referral. So, it's not 20000 as you mentioned previously.
 
I am happy to refer anyone for the Plat edge card. You get 15K bonus points and domestic flight for $149. I get 10K bonus points

Yep I have the velocity visa already
and I'm going to change the others to the Amex velocity get the point

I currently have the Platinum Edge. Do you know if I get the bonus points offer? I rang up twice and was told yes and no.
