Velocity carrier charges for Etihad redemptions now vary by distance

It looks like Velocity has made some changes to Etihad carrier charges during the "break".

These used to be USD50 per sector in Economy, USD215 per sector in Business or USD300 per sector in First. The charges are now variable based on the distance of the flight:




Unfortunately, for the SYD-AUH and MEL-AUH routes, this now means the charges are higher overall.

In some good news though, Velocity has removed the carrier charge for Delta flights. Virgin Australia and Etihad are now the only Velocity partner airlines for which carrier charges apply.

It's still in their schedules - didn't see any coming in to SYD/MEL, but it was available on the connecting services from AUH to Europe.

It is per segment. I don't think EY did any fifth freedom flying anyway.

So flying MEL-xAUH-LHR would trigger two "carrier charges" charged at the relevant cabin rate.

Their A380s aren't flying at the moment, but I believe they still have five (yes, that's all) 787s with First cabins installed. Obviously these are only being used on limited routes.

Their premium product is nice but not worth $2000 odd carrier charges - defeats the point of award redemptions
