Velocity Cobrand Acquisition Bonus

Hi all,

I have a relatively new AMEX Velocity platinum card. Just looked at my online statement and I have scored 10,000 unexpected bonus points - not that I am complaining!

I made a purchase ($50) on Surfstitch, through the Velocity eStore portal, and paid for the purchase using my AMEX. On the statement, under the Surfstitch transaction, it has - Velocity Cobrand Acqusition Bonus - Plat.

Anyone know if this is just a once off, or how/why I might have received it? If not for the purchase, it could have been a referral I made, however I only made the referral yesterday (and not even sure if they have signed up) and the bonus points appear to be linked on the transaction on the 10/08, so I doubt it would be this.

Might have to do lots more online shopping if it is something that will happen more often!!

I think I just paid direct on my AMEX (I do have it linked to my paypal and can't remember what way I did it this time, but on my order confirmation it says Credit Card and can't see a Paypal receipt so thinking this was the case).

So for $50, I got 50 points on my AMEX, 100 points to my velocity, and then 10,000 bonus points - pretty good for sale items that were over 50% off!!

Have you received any signup bonus points yet? 10,000 appeared on my account, followed by a further 70,000, when I'd spent $500.

No - I didn't sign up via a referral though (jumped the gun a bit). Could perhaps be that though accidentally being credited?

Not sure. I would think it weird that you didn't get any sign up bonus points. How did you apply for the card?

Straight on their website; I will get the 100k when I have qualified (only at around $600 spend to date) but I wasn't aware of any additional bonus I would be entitled to.

I applied through the 110,000 referral link, and like many here, got (some) points after spending $500 instead of the required $1,000. Some even got points without spending $500. It may not be an additional 10,000, but part of your 100,000. You'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

I was in the same situation yesterday - once I hit the $1K spend the balance of the points posted to take me to the 100K. Also hold a Platinum Edge card - got to love Amex not enforcing their T&C!
