My VA platinum status expires on 26 January 2014,and I won't earn enough SC's to retain. I still have 3 of the comp fare upgrades remaining, and although my renewal date for platinum is 26/1 the system shows that the upgrades expire on 10 Feb 2014.

Is the "expiry date" the date that the upgrades need to be booked by, or flown by? I have some flights to Perth and NZ later in the year, so if I can book a flight in May now and use the vouchers to upgrade that would be helpful.

I you can use these on flights beyond the expiry date - I have.

I just saw that the cheapest flexi to Perth is $519 each way, up from around $299 last time I flew that route with VA.

Looks like the upgrades will have to stay unused.

I arrived at syd airport last Thursday and they have me a upgrade to J from Y and got me on the earlier flight. I said to use points for the upgrade but to date they never charged me. She did ask if I wanted to use one of the 4 upgrade available but declined as I wanted to save for a family trip .
Is this normal ?

Good grief! I've used all my comps on SYD/MEL to PER and back (including two coming up next month even though I dropped to Gold in August - so another confirmation that you can use them after expiry, as long as booked before), and I was pretty shocked when the Flexis went up to $410 and that was only 4 or 5 months ago. They are out of control!
