Velocity Gold Delta Baggage Allowance

I've read that technically Velocity Gold doesn't get you any free bags on Delta domestic.

However, the booking says Sky Priority and the BP says "Gold Elite Plus", and both Delta Gold Medallion/Skyteam Elite Plus members do get free bags.

Has anyone managed to score this benefit with carefully chosen words at check-in?

I asked and was declined when checking in for 3 Delta flights last year. In the end I just paid when checking in online. Others may have been more persuasive - I'd be interested to hear more.

If you were to get away with it, it would be down to a Delta agent not knowing the rules and you being very persuasive. You might as well try it and the worst that will happen is you're up for bag charges.

Unfortunately, last time I was flying delta I had no status and I've since discovered that VX fly direct to the places I want to go... So I'm no help there. (I've booked direct VX flights in F for only marginally more than a DL magical mystery tour.)
