Has anyone had any luck making the Velocity team see reason?
Recently I approached the magic Virgin Gold 500 SC threshhold. I needed 25 SC's to upgrade. Problem was I normally fly Flexi earning only 20Sc's and at this time SC were dropping like flies.I did the honourable thing and called Virgin Silver centre to find out any options ( beg for mercy). After a long discusion including back room discussions with a manager and notes in files etc etc I was advised to call back after my return ( another 20 SC flexi just in case).Paperwork was to be processed from their end and assurances were given. At the end of the call I asked if buying a Business class ticket was not the more prudent option. I was assured it should be ok.
End of a long story , a Virgin Gold rep rings me at 6.30pm to advise I was not eligable as I did not have enough SC's.
Any advice?

Welcome to AFF.

So did you fly the flexi and were 5 SC short, or are you still 25 SC short? I've heard, and seen on here, of members getting to the next level when being really close before, so not sure why the change, but I know with Qantas, you have to get the whole amount, so I do.

You have actually earned too many SCs. Had you only earned 80 SCs and been a QF comp, they would have requalified you on the spot.

Normally if someone complained because she fell just a few SC's short of an upgrade/maintain target, and I'd just say "too bad". Mercy is at their discretion. Otherwise, they'd just make the qualifying target 495 SCs instead.

However, it sounds like you actually made your fare choice based on their advice- which was wrong. In which case, it should warrant some sort of follow up to rectify this. If you had asked "if I fly on flexi fare instead of a business fare, and fell only 5 SC, would you upgrade me to gold?" and they gave you assurances that they would - they should honor this. You made a decision not to buy a business class fare, which from what you say, is what you suggested to them, but they gave you assurances "not to worry, we'll make sure you get gold if you fall just short", so you picked a fare on the basis of their advice which is wrong.

Soujourner appears to have the right thinking. Undertakings apparently given but not honoured. Good luck!
