Velocity Platinum "Enhancements"

Hi all,

Today I received a letter written by someone without the ability to understand fact with regard to one of the accounts I maintain with American Express, specifically the account associated with the Velocity Platinum card that I inflict travel and restaurant spend upon.

The letter claims that my benefits have been enhanced, in that I will now receive 1.5 points per dollar spent for all purchases and 2.5 points per dollar spent with Virgin Australia.

Of course, there are a few things wrong with this statement as I'm not a professional idiot:

• No purchase I have made with this particular piece of plastic has earned less than 2 points per dollar
• The vast majority of purchases made with this payment instrument have earned 3 or 4 points per dollar through a combination of selective usage for VA travel and usage at local restaurants that I frequent (thanks to the Local Champion bonus

I'll be employing my most verbose prose to extract an admission of guilt from American Express. The only reason this is being done is the ignorant and unjustifiable conduct of the RBA, thus giving American Express a basis for significantly reducing points earn for those of us with more than 6 braincells.

I'm mostly in the same boat. Pretty much everything spent on the card has earned at least 2ppd (aside from when it's used for Amex offers). Still considering whether to keep it as my other Amex has dropped from 1.5 to 1ppd.

Haven't seen it posted anywhere yet but the 100 SC earn for 50k annual spend is a nice 'enhancement'. Shame I won't be using the card that much anymore
