I was looking at prices of some US domestic flights on UA and went as far as the booking page, and I noticed that Virgin Blue was one of the airline partners in the drop-down list where you can enter your frequent flyer number.

I can't find anything on either the DJ or UA website indicating they are frequent flyer program partners, and a search here didn't turn up anything more than a couple of years old...so can you accrue Velocity points on UA flights?

Hi there browniedx, and welcome to AFF. At present the extent of Virgin Blue's partnership with UA is that the latter codeshares on DJ domestic services, but unfortunately there is no reciprocity of loyalty programs or lounges. But stay tuned on this...

P.S. I'm a Virgin Blue staffer

I'm on a UA flight from Mel-SFO in 3 weeks and in March I go Mel-Syd-LA on vaustralia . Am I supposed to show my Velocity card at the check in???

Will a Velocity or Elevate card get me into the new Virginamerica lounge??

Can I use velocity points on Virginamerica? (they've got a nice upgrade fee to main cabin and to first class by the way to SFO, Seattle and Boston)

No. Elevate is Virgin America's Frequent Flyer scheme, Velocity is Virgin Blue's FF scheme. I don't believe Elevate has tiers that would allow lounge entry (a rarity anyway in American schemes for domestic flights). There is no partnership between Velocity and Elevate.

Not at the moment. No ideas if that will change:

I believe (having only read the website) that VS Clubhouse access at SFO, IAD and JFK can be bought by VX passengers in either First Class or Main Cabin Select, or by VX Elevate members.

Have a look: Virgin America

Not right now, although I hve seen VX's logo pop up here and there on the VA site, not to mention the fact that VA will be using VXs IFE system, so a partnership may already be in the works.

V are a bit dis-jointed. Luckily for $25 I can get a 4 hour fine dining lunch at a club in Marina Del Rey and a complimentary townhouse overnight or just for a few hours kip with a shower in LA.

Thanks CrazyDave, disappointing but I guess its what I expected. Do you expect DJ to continue its codeshare arrangement with UA once VA starts flying from LAX? It seems it would make more sense for DJ to only codeshare with VA to encourage passengers from the US to fly Virgin the whole way, especially as there is no reciprocal arrangement yet between VA and UA for US domestic flights...

They are very disjointed, but I believe this is because despite sharing the brand name each Virgin airline is actually owned by a separate company with Virgin as a minority shareholder...for e.g. I think Singapore Airlines owns VS and Toll owns/did own DJ.

That said it would be nice if they all joined forces to create the 'Virgin Alliance' as a competitor to oneworld and Star Alliance :)

So has UA jumped the gun given that they are asking for Virgin Blue Frequent Flyer numbers on online bookings right now? Something to annouce very, very soon CrazyDave?

Intersting... I thought they may have worked with Delta, but it makes sense to partner with UA given they already have some sort of interline & codeshare relationship.

Perhaps Delta's announcement of services was a bit of a kick up the bum for UA to have a FF relationship with DJ before Delta do?
