I am flying on NZ next year MEL AKL SFO in J. I detected a statement that I was ineligible to earn Velocity points on this trip. Is this so? Thanks in advance

Yep, Air New Zealand benefits only apply to trans tasman flights now, happened as a result of NZ selling their stake in VA so the partnership is winding down. Hopefully we keep the benefits when flying to NZ for now, Air New Zealand seem to treat Velocity elites quite well in my experience.

They will keep NZ going IMO, it's quite beneficial for both. And handing a huge free kick to QF otherwise at a time when they are ramping up capacity as EK wind down the trans-Tasman A380s. VA certainly can't sustain the capacity to fight and I doubt NZ can sustain the frequency without help.

Yep, thankfully even with the supposed 'Bad Blood' at the executive level they can't have QF dominating the trans tasman market :)

Can any contributor suggest an alternative *A loyalty program to gain benefit from J MEL AKL SFO excursion on NZ?

I would be crediting to SQ KF.

I would then be able to add to the points earned (using Amex MR points) so I could get enough in total for a reward J flight.

You do not want to end up with 'orphan' miles that may not be able to be used effectively.

The price of choosing good deals is not always gaining the credits you want. I mostly use Oneworld but don’t need points there and this is a good price at the moment. Thanks for your replies.
