Hello All:)

I have a requirement to fly to Zurich this coming March.

I was trolling the interweb for hours last night, trying to find a way to upgrade on a flight from Melbourne to Zurich. I am a Velocity Gold member with 200,000 points.

Are their any sharing airlines that will enable me to upgrade, even for part of the way, from Melbourne to Zurich.

Time wise, it appears that Emirates would have the most suitable timetable, but in all honesty, I am trying to avoid them as I travelled twice long haul with them last year, and it was a very average experience, believe me. Also the Dubai Airport "experience" does nothing for me.

Maybe it's a dumb question:lol: But any help would be most warmly appreciated:lol:

Many Thanks

I'm not too sure about upgrades - the website is silent on this which implies they can't be used for upgrades, but you could do this:

Use your 188,000 points on an award flight on V Australia SYD-AUH (Abu Dhabi) in business; then book an Etihad flight AUH-GVA (it's in the same country at least). a straight business award with Etihad to most of continental europe is 256,000. There are also some daytime options which would mean an Economy seat would be bearable, perhaps for the 6hr flight to GVA.

Emirates is leaving the program - a consequence of the deepening of the relationship with their direct competitor. The last date to book with Emirates is 31 Mar, for bookings till 2012.

That's my ideas - over to someone else?
