Just received the email. Is this new?
From 26 June 2024, Velocity Silver, Gold, and Platinum members who wish to receive their physical Status membership packs will need to let us know by calling the membership contact centre on 13 18 75. If you choose not to receive a pack, your digital membership card will be available on the Velocity or Virgin Australia App.
Seems a lot of members enjoy getting the physical package by the old snail mail but this will be no longer, unless you actually ask them for it. I guess they'll save $$$$ on postage and handling from those who opt out of it so perhaps it could be a benefit.

The question remains as to where their savings will be spent next?

Sounds very sensible to me. It would also be sensible if Velocity sent three bag tags instead of two to Platinum members. Why send two when we can have three bags?

I noticed in the update notes for the Velocity App (here) recently that it mentioned this 'enhancement'. I guess we will just ignore the expiry date on the plastic card from now on (not that it was ever really relied on in my experience anyway)? I do wonder if it means for those who do partake in the physical mailout, will it arrive any quicker? (this may just be a Perth thing).

Even better, let us choose how many in the App!

I suspect you’re right here! (i was gonna say ‘on the money’)

They claim it’s environmentally driven… but then all their crackers and cheese packets are non-recyclable. So I’m not really sure that’s the driver! (the environmental bit).

I got the same email. What the hell IS a Velocity Membership Pack, can anyone advise?

A few of the *A airlines have stopped doing physical cards some time ago. I've got status with Asiana and haven't gotten a card in years. Haven't had any issues with not having it either.

A downside of a digital card is that overseas partner lounges I have found tend to ask for a physical one, and aren't convinced by a digital one (which are subject to manipulation). I think I'll still be asking for the physical pack.
I would've though any lounge would just scan your card, so it doesn't matter whether physical or digital. Agreed though that anything physical has slightly more weight when interacting with airport staff

I've only used the digital one for at least 3 years and have not found any issues internationally (with Singapore and Qatar).
I agree it's still nice to have for peace of mind, just in case, particularly if overseas.
