Vietnam Airlines credit rather than refund?

Has anyone been successful in getting a refund rather than a credit for Vietnam Airlines? I'm also not impressed that the credit expires this year and the chances of us being able to travel internationally this year are super slim. With 5 tickets, it's about 7.5k worth.

Still waiting. The airline is not responding to either my agent or myself despite multiple attempts from both of us. This has now been 6 months! One things for sure, when we do get to go to Vietnam, I will spend more and not book with Vietnam Airlines - I get the wait for payment, it's the lack of response and zero customer service is what I am annoyed about.

I got responses sending to this email [email protected]. First one took 3 weeks and second one in 2 weeks. They haven't reply to my last one yet from 2 weeks ago but refunds showed up. I told them politely that I needed to cancel the card soon and I had no choice but disputing the transactions. 6 months is way too long.

After a number of attempts in contacting Vietnam airlines over the last 6 weeks they emailed back last week stating I could receive a refund and that to reply back if acceptable. Some fees applied on both sectors though this was acceptable to me. Unsure when the credit will be made back to my credit card at this stage waiting a reply from them.

I am in the same vote as you with Cambodian Angkorair they won’t offer a refund only a voucher to be used before end of this year. Can’t see this holiday being taken until next year so that’s a loss At this stage.

Thanks for the response. After me hassling them on Facebook and via email, they have said my agent can process a refund (I booked through an on-line agency) but that it may take 3 months to receive the refund. The agent successfully put the refund request through but said that it would take 3 days for any response - still waiting. Hoping for a successful outcome.

Same same. Asked for cash refund in March they said 3 months. They sent an email in April asking the same question as they did in March. I confirmed I wanted the cash... 3 months.

Update from VN yesterday
"
Your tickets are now being closed for refund process. We will keep you informed of the refund result after 20/06/2020.

For credit card purchases, we generally transmit our credit instructions to the credit card processing company within 7 business day of the date the refund is processed. However, it can take 30 business days (or up to 2 billing cycles) for the credit card issuer to show this credit on your statement. "

Lucky you! I'm still waiting. Also fighting with Novotel Saigon Centre who have not refunded yet despite the Accor policy. This is so frustrating! Glad to see someone is making progress.

I still have issues with Raddison Antwerp for a refund but the VN outlay was by far the highest amount outstanding. Good luck Ausgirl.

Well done Sharky. I finally received my last refund from them early July. I had to post on their Facebook page and they responded within minutes via messenger and money in the account two days later. My Vietnam Cambodia trip has now been fully refunded including my travel insurance I didn’t use. Certainly like many of us I would have preferred to have taken the holiday had COVID not come about.

Finally got the Novotel Saigon refund processed, apparently will take 10 days to hit the account but they sent me proof that they have processed their end, so that is a start. I had posted on VN Facebook page and emailed them, still waiting and likewise, 5 tickets from Aus to Vietnam with internal flights is a lot of money so I will keep chasing.

I had a fully refundable ticket booked on Expedia, charged by the airlines (Class C was 35-40% cheaper). Expedia submitted a refund request on May 18.

Also contacted Vietnam airlines and got a reply today after 3 weeks and 2 days

We have confirmed that your travel agent had submitted the refund application on the 18th May. We are in a process of all the refund requests that were received around 25-27th April. Once the refund has been completed, it takes up to two weeks to be transferred to the agent account.

Still didn't tell me how long it's going to take. Could be months.

Interesting. My original request for refund instead of the credit they gave me went in around 21 April but not sure it went through properly but they have actively started chasing it as they have now sent it 3 times. I guess it is just a waiting game. My flights were for April 9. Good luck. Hopefully we will all get our money back eventually.

Have you got your refunds?

12 days later, they said they are processing refunds received May 4-7. At this rate, I should get mine in 2-3 weeks. After that, I will just dispute the transactions. 4 months is long enough I think.
