Vinomofo Wine Deals

A bit too much for a fancy razzmatazz sale
Surely you do not have to spend a hunge on a nice shiraz ? I know that some of my 5 or 6 December24 Fo buys were supurb and when i would want to spend that coin.....hold on a bit...if i tasted a hundred bucker i would want that to taste 5 times better than A Fo 20 bucker on discount?...and it has only happened once I think. The Meschach 09 maybe, but is not that a perfect question for the real afficianados out there ?
Ethereral people. I've had ethereal at $1.99. I've had it at $15.99. I've had it at $19.99 and as a matter of fact I'm having it now.
Kevviek, have you had the 2023 Pinot from the vic market yet? It's amazing but it aint ethereal. Damn close though. Body amazing.
Complexity amazing. Cherries galore. No actual oak that rips me but watch the price. For a tenner, you don't get too much French roasted oak but what an amazing pinot. Better than the Mike Press that i coughped on, yes i did, a year ago. it's much better.
My God at a tenner, whilst it doesn't have the complexity of that Mermerus, it might actually be the best pinot for bang for buck i have ever had.
Better that the Tomich 707 was it from years ago...who rememebers that one? No. But that was twenny five bucks. It blew my mind. Better than the Mermerus? No. but that was over $30. the Mermerus was better that Tomich 707 FYI.
This IS the best pinot bang for buck i have ever had folks and wait for it...the night is still young.

I splurged on some of this, mainly a case out of mof_fomo.

Like our resident apiarist $50/btl is something I'd normally hesitate on. And the discount of the ususl price isn't particularly large.

But margs bordeaux blend in a decent year for reds there (2016) with a 98CM (on the back of 97JH: 2015, 96NG: 2014) plus mof_fomofomo pushed me over the line.

Anyone who has tried this stuff feel free to tell me I've been tricked again... I'd like that.

@beefarmer which pinot are you referring to?

I think you are more likely to have a $20 bottle to taste twice as good than a $10 bottle than a $100 bottle to taste 5x better than a $20 one. The theory of diminishing returns is at play.
Yeah, the price vs quality graph for wine is another one of those sort of exponential curves. I know my sweet spot and it's well before that curve starts to skyrocket (or flatten, depending on your orientation of axes).

A confusing obfuscation going on in this thread, the pinot that BF was extolling is this one (unidentified) but a trip to the market to buy some cut-price bok choy or wagyu will lead you to this Swords Wines - Queen Victoria Market I'm sure BF will correct me if I've got it wrong...
Now you will like this. at the vic market they have a small boozer in the deli section. they have a pinot cleanskin as it were , 2023 from Vic highland. took a punt two weeks ago and loved the one. went back this morn and took another to lunch with a mate. its a really nice spicy, raspberried and cherried wine that drank better second time around. guess what, its a tenner only for 6, or a dozen bucks normally. i gave it a solid 7.75 and serious overdelivery for the Elvis Presley of the wine grape to some. Wander in during one of your city of melbourne visits.

Similar but different are the ridiculous point scoring systems where everything drinkable to good to great is crammed into a 15 point range out of 100?
Even considering that reviewers are obligate symbionts of the wine industry who don't want to kill the host, it's absurd that 75% of the scale is meaningless filler?
Something undrinkable bordering on poisonous still gets 70 points for trying? Because it pours as a liquid?
Quality score increments are tangible in economy, gradual in business & subjective in first beyond the velvet rope where cost of entry is essential for 98+?

With the old 20 pt system at least there was an attempt to rate the main components (Colour, Nose, Palate), with the 100 pts system, as far as I can tell the number is just pulled out of the air (or something else starting with "a"), but of course based on the knowledge and intrinsic/automatic computation of quality components by the professional taster.

On the other hand, the compression into that top 15 points of the 100 point system is a reflection that most wine made and sold is at least drinkable and not faulty, much of it is actually enjoyable, some lesser numbers are interesting, less still exciting and a few are truly memorable. It's just that current stupid system only allows about 5 increments for those last 3 or 4. And has no component for price.

I visited EVOI last year and was really impressed with their older reds, particularly the more premium ones. I bought quite a few of them on the visit. They had a few vintages of The Satyr on tasting and they were all excellent! If you're into Margaret River red blends, I think you'll be very happy!
