I am probably wrong, but my logic suggests that the higher alcohol is the by-product of the particular wine making technique that was used making this wine, drying some of the fruit before crushing (less water - more concentration). I enjoy Amarone wines and was curious how well it would work with a local Shiraz - hence the purchase!
