AusPost deliveries come to me via our local franchise StarTrack courier. He's a lovely bloke who is always cheerful but has the street sense of a primary schooler. He tells me all the time that "he knows we are home" which is dangerous because I work from home... When I am home... And when I am not I am not. Too many calls to my family to pick stuff up when I am away and he gives me a wave on the ring doorbell and drops it mid doormat and walks off
We have of course talked about it but it's a sure chief and a smile and a nod and then business as usual the next day. I'm not sure he remembers the convo over the other 50 he has per day.
I can tell you from a human perspective as we have chatted (he's Indian, lived in Singapore for a while so we bonded over that) that he is not of means and would not recognise expensive wine and it's storage requirement.
I simply say this to point out that we have comoditised shipping down to such a low value now that it probably just isn't possible without a dedicated skilled courier who doesn't have 5000 Alibaba gadgets to deliver per day, and I suspect the price would go up A LOT.
However... Just an idea... Why don't they introduce lockboxes like Amazon's which are climate controlled and drop them off there? Surely there's scope for someone to place a few around and then hit up all the online retailers like boozebud and vinomofo and so on and get them on board? It could be an option for shipping, if you choose not to.. it's the usual
