Oh wow, the second half of the year was not good for them.

I'm a bit disappointed that they aren't expanding their 777 fleet. I'd like to see them offering more long-haul services. However, based on the layout of the new A330-200 planes they're purchasing I suspect we'll see them start to offer more using those aircraft. I'd be thrilled if they used them to offer PER-AUH services. :)

Is the 330-200 capable of PER to the Middle East?

Is the 330-200 capable of PER to the Middle East?

It's 900 miles (~14%) shorter than AKL-LAX, which QF used the A332 on for a while. I have no knowledge of prevailing winds on either of those routes though.

So potentially a route that JB may be referring to with the plans for the 332's perhaps.

JB is one the record as saying either VA or EY will open PER-AUH in the next couple of years. No mention of what equipment though but I would think the a330s would make sense - they have more of them, they are less of a financial risk, and need less passengers to fill.

On paper its max range when fully loaded is 7250nmi, and PER-AUH is 4871nmi. Even with very strong winds I would think that there's heaps of wiggle room there. TK is also using them on its SIN-IST route, which is 4862nmi and probably has similar conditions.

When I see these profit numbers and the QF numbers last week I'm pleased I'm not in the airline business.

Didn't EK used to do DBX-PER in an A330 at one stage before shifting to the 777??

I can remember a 340 (343/345?) but never a 330 from EK.

Saying that I can only remember from 2007 so maybe before then.
