Long time watcher, first time poster.

Was just searching the iPhone store and notice that Virgin Australia Branded app has been released yesterday.

I am not sure if its real or not, looks fake:confused:

Can't seem to add the link off my iPhone but just looks like a rehash of the virgin's mobile site.

Found a jetstar one too :p

Fake. The submitter is 'Ahmed Aldhahry' or something along that line.

If it was real this would be 'Virgin Australia' or a technology company such as 'Badjar Ogilvy'.

Also, VA would have made a fanfare about its release I would think.

Good spotting though!

Hopefully we can look forward to a genuine one soon :)

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app

Don't know til i use it. It's definitely not "official" - seems to basically be a rebadge of their mobile site as an app. It may be useful for something - i guess we need to see some reports back.

While we are at it....

Why is there no ability to check the flight status on the mobile website? That is the main reason I thought people would go to it...

Another OT point of annoyance for me is when you book a flight from the iPhone, you get charged a rate higher than the lower internet rate .

Why? What's the difference?

This isnt an official app, and we have submitted a copyright infringement with Apple.

The rate is the same, it's just the mobile version shows the price with the booking fee included.

Maybe Virgin should pay me to make their app. :p

On that note why are Australian airlines all scared to do the holistic approach to iPhone apps ? Qantas does that whole feature limited website
Users just get frustrated when there is no innovation in a field of mobile tech. (by users I mean me)

Related gripe...I hate being shunted to a mobile app optimized for tiny screens when using an iPad which is capable of running the full featured website. Airlines aren't very good at creating mobile apps. MHs one is terrible. You can't book an open jaw ticket on it and using the back button at any time during a fare search starts the app from scratch! It also only gives you the full priced fares, none of the specials on the main site. Big thumbs down.

I agree - the QF apps are awful - the frequent flyer app is a waste of bandwidth and the QF app is clunky, slow and can't do what I need :(

Virgin Australia, I disagree - sale fares are not shown on the mobile web page (unless it has been updated in the last couple of weeks). I have no idea why, but it's very annoying.

The same problem occurs with the Jetstar mobile website, which is provided by the same company - Mobile Travel Technologies (MTT).

Interestingly enough, the person who has released this app, also has done an JQ one, and no one seems to care about copyright there (I was actually very surprised Apple let this thru as surely the person reviewing the name would have rejected that for copyright infringement).

Ah thanks VA. You just jogged my memory. I think I worked that out once before (or perhaps told here on AFF).

Terribly sorry for my attack of memory loss!

EDIT: I didn't know about the sale fares not showing up though!

Apple outsource app testing to India. If an issue is raised then its sent on to the US based Application Approval team.
I'm sure neither have time or care about trademark.

They sure as hell care about their own at least. To the point they even lodged an objection to Woolworths new 'fresh produce "W"' logo when Wooley's lodged the trademark application
